In form Salford City are back at the Peninsula Stadium on Sunday afternoon, as the Ammies host Morecambe in Sky Bet League Two (KO 15.00).
Salford head into their final fixture of 2024 following three consecutive victories in the league, the first time this feat has been achieved since October 2023, scoring eight and conceding zero in the process. Indeed, Boxing Day’s win over Barrow was Salford’s ninth competitive clean sheet of the season, surpassing last season’s total of eight.
Karl Robinson’s side will be closing the calendar year off at a venue where the team have not lost a match since the Carlisle game back in early November, a home record which sees the Ammies on a run of five consecutive wins in all competitions, something which the club has not managed to do at Moor Lane since September 2018.
The Ammies presently find themselves 9th in the league table, one point outside the play-offs and three points away from the automatic promotion places.
SALFORD VS MORECAMBE
Come and join us at The Peninsula Stadium on Sunday afternoon
Like Salford, Sunday’s opponents Morecambe also won on Boxing Day, picking up a crucial 1-0 win at Carlisle United, a result which saw Carlisle replace Morecambe at the bottom of the table. Morecambe do though remain two points inside the relegation places heading into this weekend.
Assisting in the winner for The Shrimps on Boxing Day was Marcus Dackers, with the 21-year-old forward currently on loan to the Lancashire side from the Ammies.
Boxing Day’s victory for Morecambe also ended a three game losing run for Derek Adams’ team, who have a much better record away from home so far this season, with Morecambe currently gaining the league's least number of points at home, whilst also having the ninth highest number of points taken on the road.
Salford Captain Curtis Tilt was one of the scorers in this same fixture last season, when the Ammies were 3-1 victors at the Peninsula Stadium in March. That home win for Salford is part of a current trend when these two clubs meet, with neither side as of yet able to secure an away win against one another in League Two.
The only away point thus far between the two sides came in September 2019 when Danny Lloyd’s two goals helped the Ammies get a 2-2 draw on the Lancashire coast.
For the second game running, if selected on Sunday, Cole Stockton will be playing against one of his former sides, having scored 70 goals for Morecambe across 211 appearances during his two stints at the club, including being part of the team which won the League Two play-offs in 2021.
