Two goals in the opening 25 minutes proved to be enough for the visitors on Tuesday afternoon, as the Ammies fell to a 2-1 defeat against Notts County B in the Central League.

The Nottinghamshire side opened the scoring 13 minutes into the game, when a mistake at the back gave Tyreace Palmer the opportunity to tap into an empty goal from the edge of the area.

Salford were unlucky though not to score an equaliser in their next attack, when a great ball in from Tosin Olopade from the right was met by the chest of Dan Chesters, who directed his effort towards goal, only to be denied by keeper Harvey Lawson.

Notts County B then doubled their lead on 24 minutes, when Charlie Gill burst into the Salford box on the left-hand side and delivered a fine finish past James Carr.

Salford eventually did get a goal back on 38 minutes, when full-back Ben Collins played the ball down the left, and following a great show of pace from Kyrell Malcolm to get to the pass, the move was then finished by Junior Luamba who found himself with the ball on the back post and scored.

The second half saw the Ammies produce a series of half chances, the best of which came on 62 minutes, when a nicely played one-two between Chesters and Alfie Henderson created an opening which was stopped by a good save from Lawson.

However, time unfortunately soon ran out for Salford to score that elusive second goal and Notts County B held firm to take all the points.

It was a frustrating afternoon for B-Team Coach Danny Byrne, who felt his side had enough to not just have drawn the game, but also perhaps to have taken the win.

“It was really frustrating in terms of the result of the game, in not taking our chances, and in not being ruthless enough.

“We spoke at half time, obviously we felt we had gifted them two goals and we had made it easy for them, and then we had to work really hard to create chances, which I thought we then did.

“I thought at times we played some really good football. We got into some great areas, it was just that we were not ruthless and we didn't have that quality in the final third to punish them when really we should have.

“It is frustrating because of the result, but when you look at the performance, there was some really good stuff in terms of the shape and the way we tried to play. So the lads will be frustrated, I'm frustrated they've not been able to win the game.

“That's what it is about if they want to get into the first team, those little moments that win you games, that is what is going to get them into the first team squad.

“So they have to learn to do that, but it's a bit of a mixed one today, frustration, but also we can be pleased with some of the stuff that we've seen also.”
