Salford City earned a first away win of the season with a 2-1 victory away at Colchester United.

Kelly Nmai’s second goal of the week opened the scoring as he scored from a tight angle, tucking away Kylian Kouassi’s headed pass.

Colchester equalised when Harry Anderson found a way past Jamie Jones after the goalkeeper had made two great saves to deny Lyle Taylor then Anderson.

However Kouassi would have the final say as he created a hint of space inside the area after Tyrese Fornah’s pass, and hit a low shot that deflected into the near post to score his first Ammies goal.

Speaking after the game, Karl Robinson was happy to see his side make it back-to-back wins and was thankful to the travelling supporters that made the journey down.

“We don’t make it easy do we! If you look at it, winning by one goal all the time, we need to start scoring more goals and making it easier for our own hearts and mindset later on in games, but I thought the players, first half we were good, we had complete control of the game and I don’t think they had a shot first half.

“I thought for large parts of the game we looked very competent and very controlled, it’s a five and a half hour journey down here off the back of playing Tuesday night as well, so we knew it was always going to be a very difficult challenge for us and to perform in the way we did and get three points I’m really, really pleased.

“It’s a great week. Thank you to the fans that travelled, that never goes amiss, that’s always something we’re really thankful for.

“We’re a forever growing football club with a lot of critics, but for me them critics are only fuelling peoples’ fires. There’s a strong, stable club with a lot of internal growth, for me we’ve got to make sure we turn the screw, keep demanding off each other, and if we keep doing that we’ll be alright.”

Salford are back on the road on Tuesday night for the slightly shorter journey up to Fleetwood Town.
