Luke Garbutt spoke of his pride in his team mates after their 2-0 Emirates FA Cup defeat at Manchester City.

The captain won the Player of the Match award at the Etihad Stadium after a fine defensive performance, that was shared along a Salford back-line which frustrated the Premier League side and limited them to only four total shots on target.

It's the second such award that the defender has won in this season's competition, and reflecting on the game he said:

“We’ve got a huge sense of pride in the performance, I thought to a man we were excellent. In the second half we create a couple of really good chances, we’ve just got to take that performance into the league now and really kick on.

“We’ve been working all week on the shape and being compact and I thought we did that to a man today; in the second half we gained real confidence and we started to believe that it was a real cup tie and that we might get a chance to score. On another day we would have got a goal. To come away 2-0 off the back of 8-0 last year is a huge sense of pride to our performance.

“The boys can take huge heart that at our level we are a match for anyone, and we need to make sure that the mentality is high. We’ve got a lot of games coming up so we’ve got to focus on recovering right now for the massive game on Tuesday against Newport.”
