Bio
Salford City announced the signing of midfielder Matt Butcher on a two-year deal at the Peninsula Stadium in August 2025, bringing with him a vast amount of experience playing at a higher level having spent much of his career plying his trade in League One.
Prior to his Salford move, Butcher was at Wycombe Wanderers, and spent the second half of the 2024-25 season on loan at Bristol Rovers, making 18 appearances.
The 28-year-old midfielder began his playing career at Bournemouth, where he was named Young Player of the Year in 2014. He then moved to Accrington Stanley, making 84 appearances across two seasons in England’s third tier, before joining Plymouth Argyle, where he played a crucial role in the south-west club’s League One success in 2023, making 40 league appearances and scoring three goals that title winning season.
